Parking and Driving Directions

Friday, March 17, 2006

Attention, all fans and participants planning to travel through Western North Carolina on I-40. Due to a rockslide that occurred at mile marker 2.6 in North Carolina, near the Tennessee state line, on Oct. 25, Interstate 40 is closed from mile marker 451 in Tennessee to mile marker 20 in North Carolina. For an alternate route, NC DOT recommends using I-81 to I-26. See the full story for more information. Detailed directions and a map are available.

Additional Traffic Hints:
I-85 and Exit 49 (Bruton Smith Boulevard) are usually the most congested on event days. If possible, try to avoid Exit 49 and Bruton Smith Boulevard. Good alternates are Hwy 29 from both the North and the South and Hwy 49 to Morehead Road.

Speedway officials urge race fans to arrive at the track early. Use the extra time to tailgate, visit displays, souvenir row and enjoy pre-race activities. If possible, plan your trip to arrive a couple hours before the race is scheduled to begin.

To avoid traffic and parking completely, CATS provides bus service from the Charlotte Transportation Center in Uptown Charlotte. Fans can take the 79X Concord Mills Express for just $6 roundtrip. To learn more about the 79X Concord Mills Express and CATS services, call (704) 336-RIDE (7433).

Exit Disclaimer:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will have various traffic patterns in place for incoming and outgoing traffic. Please follow their directions. Sometimes you'll have to "turn right to go left!" All traffic patterns will eventually lead you back to I-85, I-77 and other major highways. Use maps to make yourself familiar with local roads and alternate routes.
