  • The Lowe’s Motor Speedway facility includes nearly 2,000 acres.
  • There are more than 100 flagpoles located throughout the speedway property.
  • During the spring of 2006, more than 10,000 tons (20 million pounds) of asphalt was used to repave the racing surface of the 1.5-mile oval from the inside white line to the outside retaining wall. That’s equivalent to the weight of 5,882 NASCAR Sprint Cup cars.
  • Nearly 1,500 trash cans are placed throughout the speedway property to collect the nearly 400 tons of trash that will be generated during a NASCAR event weekend.
  • For the May 2009 events, Anheuser-Busch Recycling and Coca-Cola Recycling joined together and placed 400 recycling barrels around the track’s property.
  • In May, nearly 13,500 feet of hot dogs are sold which is enough to stretch nearly two times around 1.5-mile superspeedway.
  • During May race weeks more than 34,250 slices of pizza are sold, enough to equal 5,875 large pizzas.
  • Nearly 309,400 pounds of ice are used during May race weeks, equaling the weight of 91 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars.
  • More than 9,500 gallons of soda and water are sold in May. That’s enough to fill 793 NASCAR fuel cans.
  • The winner of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race takes home more than $1 million in prize earnings. If the winner were to receive that in $1 bills, they would wrap around the 1.5-mile superspeedway 63 times.
  • The small one-fifth-mile paved oval located outside the Turn-3 tunnel is known as Out Back Speedway, because it is located out in the back.
  • The inner perimeter road around Lowe’s Motor Speedway is named in honor of three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Darrell Waltrip, the only five-time winner of the Coca-Cola 600.
  • Lowe’s Motor Speedway was the first track to feature professional boxing during its NASCAR weekends. From 1979 to 1991, professional boxing matches were held prior to qualifying for the Coca-Cola 600 and Bank of America 500.
  • With the addition of 17 VIP suites in 1977, Lowe’s Motor Speedway became the first race track with more than 10 suites. Today, there are 113.
  • Lowe’s Motor Speedway became the first modern superspeedway to host night racing in 1992. The NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America was run at night for the first time in 2003 and today all six of the track’s NASCAR-sanctioned events are run under the lights.
  • The land Lowe’s Motor Speedway now occupies was the site of a working plantation during the Civil War.
  • President George Washington ate lunch and rested in a house that once served as the speedway’s offices.
