Additional Traffic Hints:
I-85 and Exit 49 (Bruton Smith Boulevard) are usually the most congested on event days. If possible, try to avoid Exit 49 and Bruton Smith Boulevard. Good alternates are Hwy 29 from both the North and the South and Hwy 49 to Morehead Road.
Speedway officials urge race fans to arrive at the track early. Use the extra time to tailgate, visit displays, souvenir row and enjoy pre-race activities. If possible, plan your trip to arrive a couple hours before the race is scheduled to begin.
Best Travel Times on Race Days
- It is best to arrive at Charlotte Motor Speedway before 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, for Bojangles’ Pole Night, to avoid commuter traffic.
- The Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage on October 14 and Bank of America 500 on October 15 are both evening races, but fans are encouraged to arrive earlier to avoid Concord Mills Mall congestion and commuter traffic. Parking is free and lots open at 7:00 a.m.
Charlotte Motor Speedway is once again partnering with the Charlotte Area Transit System, or CATS, in Charlotte, N.C., to bring bus service from Center City Charlotte to the track. Starting from the Charlotte Transportation Center, race fans can take the 79X Concord Mills Express to beat the traffic and enjoy the Bank of America 500 at the speedway for just $7 round-trip. The route will run every 20 minutes from noon to 6 p.m. on Oct. 15. Return trips will begin immediately after the checkered flag as race fans make their way to the buses near the track's main entrance. To purchase tickets or for more information visit the Charlotte Transportation Center at 310 East Trade Street in Center City, go online at www.ridetransit.org or call (704) 336-RIDE (7433).
Exit Disclaimer:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will have various traffic patterns in place for incoming and outgoing traffic. Please follow their directions. Sometimes you'll have to "turn right to go left!" All traffic patterns will eventually lead you back to I-85, I-77 and other major highways. Use the inbound traffic (please link to map) and outbound traffic (please link to map) maps to make yourself familiar with local roads and alternate routes.
